CapFax: Treasurer Frerichs’ home targeted again by late-night protesters

This is old news, I sat on it and well now I want to bring it to your attention. This is something that I strongly oppose. And I see there are some sides that have no shame as far as when or even how they protest. This is an issue to me.

As you may know all the executive offices in Illinois are held by Democrats and the "Free Palestine" crowd have opted to single out the family of Democrat State Treasurer Michael Freirichs.

Do you want to know why? Because his office failed to divest some investments with ties to the State of Israel and doubled down. They came to his house once before last year and then they recently came back.

Eh? Really disturb the peace at 3 A.M. some people have nothing better to do and worse still this.

“The lead woman had a bullhorn, and she made it very clear what her reasons were (for protesting),” he said. “She made it very clear by singling out my children, calling out, saying she knew that they were at home, knew that they were in their cribs and that they shouldn’t be allowed to sleep.”

Are you guys for real? Why are you making that man's children suffer? And again you're disturbing the peace with your protest!

For Treasurer Freirichs' part his statement:

I will always defend the right of people to peacefully protest. But coming to my home with bullhorns at 3 a.m. and frightening my family simply goes too far. This is intimidation to cause fear through scare tactics. They made it clear as they were leaving that they would continue to harass my wife and children where they sleep until my office divests from Israel Bonds. I won’t back down from these threats. I stand by the investment decisions I’ve made.

OK, I'm with it. But they shouldn't be protesting in a private neighborhood at 3 A.M. Well I don't know where he lives, and that's not really my business anyway. I presume he lives in a Chicago neighborhood and such activity would be disruptive.

I stole this screencap of a sign in his yard from CapFax.

CapFax: Pritzker blocks pardoned Jan 6 rioters from state jobs

I saw a brief video about this via Chicago's ABC News affiliate and here's a link from Capitol Fax about this. The discussion is interesting.

How about a little balance today

Rich Miller wrote about these "pink slime" papers in his syndicated column. I'd say give it a read, especially if you've actually seen one of these newspapers.

He would say in this the big loser is the Daily Herald since they had a hand in the publishing of these papers. Proft's "pink slime" rags had a contract with a printing house that was connected with the suburban Daily Herald newspaper. The Daily Herald's reputation took a hit once the connection was uncovered.

I guess the question I still have is will this affect the election in November...

Marathon Pundit discusses "pink slime" newspapers

John Ruberry makes reference to some newspapers sent to residents in some parts of the Chicago area published by a printer in association with the suburban Daily Herald. I somewhat know about this because it has been reported on the Capitol Fax.

The person who is responsible for this "pink slime" pieces is longtime conservative activist and one-time gubernatorial candidate Dan Proft who also is running TV ads in this election cycle paid for by People who play by the rules PAC. Ruberry's thesis is that:
With occasional exceptions, the newsrooms of Illinois’ major newspapers are woke echo chambers. They still claim to be the watchdogs for the public, but these so-called journalists are mostly interested in protecting and advancing leftist narratives. Contemporary reporters are a toxic combination of “the cool kids” in high school, with all of their arrogance, and the false ethical superiority of Iran’s morality police. Community newspapers usually only report on petty crime, but if you need to locate the nearest bake sale, well, you know where to find that information. These weekly papers are in fact weakly ones.

If the Illinois media performed their jobs honestly and capably, there’d be no need for “pink slime.”

So allow me to talk about the governor's race in Illinois. Once the primary election was settle in June for the most part most of the focus of the ads I've seen on TV or online had been abortion. I can't say I've seen many ads from Darren Bailey who is the Republican nominee for gov. The Pritzker campaign and I'm sure other  PACs were running ads regarding abortion and certainly using those ads to highlight Bailey's stance on abortion. Basically they emphasize that be doesn't believe in allowing for the exceptions of life of the mother or rape/incest.

Of course at the same time what are the issues of these pink slime papers. The Safe-T act, which has been derided online primarily as a PURGE act. Ever heard of The Purge movies, I have it seems so depressing and dire that a law was written to effective allow almost anything. I've seen the defenses for this act and they seem reasonable.

However, one good point to be made is that politicians from Gov. Pritzker to Attorney General Kwame Raoul are talking about making some tweaks to that law. And Ruberry notes that the law would be effective after the general election in November. So perhaps the Democrats who control this state are worried that this law could affect their electoral prospects.

So basically aside from abortion crime is an important issue. People want to be safe from the criminal element and especially true in Chicago.

Time will tell if this "pink slime" rags are in anyway effective in influencing the results of the 2022 race.

The Republican gubernatorial primary 2022

Well the state of the GOP in Illinois is discussed in this column by Rich Miller. Illinois has a history of electing liberal Republicans from the late Jim Thompson to Jim Edgar to George Ryan and to perhaps a lesser extent Bruce Rauner.

With that said I've always thought it strange that in a state that seems to not like conservative Republicans, if you're not that conservative you're a RINO. And we're seeing that play out in the Republican primary which will be held at the end of June.

Richard Irvin could be described as more moderate he might be closer to Thompson, Edgar, and even Ryan. He wants to paint himself as a conservative and unfortunately he's had some downstate Republicans paint him into a different corner. It shows his closest opponent is Darren Bailey a downstate farmer most well known in this state for opposing Gov. Pritzker's pandemic mandates.

The last debate I saw Richard Irvin - mayor of Illinois' second largest city of Aurora - there were references to Irvin being a closet Democrat. There were references to Irvin who has pulled a lot of his TV attacked Bailey - a sitting state senator - as a Biden supporter were more or less dividing this state's GOP. It seems from a strong rollout there was enough time for the tide to turn.

To be honest, I was somewhat excited about voting for someone who could be the Republican nominee for Governor who happened to be a Black man and hopefully that person defeating J.B. Pritzker handing him a re-election loss. Perhaps it's saying something, now I'm not so sure.

Those millions given to Irvin's campaign by this state's wealthiest resident a man by the name of Ken Griffin - he has his name on the Museum of Science and Industry. Seems to have not done much good, and worse still Griffin himself will likely be outspent.

My final comment to this is, it seems difficult to be a Republican in this state. You can't be too conservative and that's true for the Chicago area which is where most of the voters in this state are. At the same time you can't be seen as a "RINO". And now we can add, you can't allow yourself to be seen as selling your soul to a billionaire.

2006

I'm making a connection between 2020 and 2006. That's a 14-year gap between two different elections and two entirely different set of circumstances.

I don't know why but 2020 didn't freak me out, however, 2006 had. We see in 2022 that the wrong man is in office, he's barely functioning in office right now. He saw a ghost when the Easter bunny got his attention and directed him away from the crowd at the White House. He can't help but make embarrassing gaffes and caused even a star NHL player to chuckle. He just seems out of his depth and worse still people begin to make references to his advanced age. After all Joe Biden is 79 years old!

So what happened in '20 well coronavirus. The pandemic and the economic fallout from the pandemic economic shut down. It was self-induced and any allegations of voter fraud aside the public decided President Trump needed to go.

For my sensibilities he was the only strong leader we had. Can you believe a man who largely stayed in his basement during the campaign and barely energized voter enthusiasm can be a strong leader? Well I didn't believe it then and he's showing it now. I'm sure a few of those 81 million voters who cast a ballot for "Let's go Brandon" realize Trump was a better President.

So anyway what's with the 2006 election? Why am I bringing that up?

Like 2006, this year '22 is an election year. And 16 years ago we had to decide whether or not then incumbent Governor Rod Blagojevich should have a second term. A blogger who follows Illinois politics such as John Ruberry just knew for sure that then state treasurer Judy Baar Topinka would become the first female governor this great state. Instead it wasn't even close!

I also just knew that this state knew that Blago was a crook who just wasn't serious about being Governor, however,  he just had that personality that was perfect for politics. It just seemed as if he wasn't that interested in day-to-day governing. Just knew that the public saw this and would put into his place someone who would run this state.

Well what was going on in 2006, well that was a wave year as it turned out. I was still going through Morehouse at the time, majoring in Political Science and it sort of caught be off guard. Perhaps I wasn't really paying much attention to this at the time.

There was no pandemic or even race riots or even an economic shut down back then. There was an ongoing war in Iraq and Afghanistan which was proving unpopular. For the first time since 1994 the Democrats regained control of both houses of the U.S. Congress and it wasn't like their meager hold on control of Congress in 2020. So it seemed as if whatever energy in the election was going towards the Democrats and it went on down the ballot. It helped Blagojevich and perhaps it hurt the late great Topinka.

Either way little did we know that over two years after his re-election Blago would be arrested at his home by the FBI he would be removed from office halfway through his second term. He also became yet another Illinois Governor who would have to serve time in federal prison.

Anyone who felt freaked out over the 2016 election - REEEEEEEEE - well I felt just about the same in 2006 when Blago won re-election. How could this state be so willing to re-elect a man who was bad at his job and so crooked?

And some voters asked how after election the first Black president we weren't so willing to election the first woman president and instead elected a misogynist and racist to office. To that I don't know what to say, in 2006, 2016 and 2020 the voters had spoken and cast their ballot based on whatever info they had. However between 2006 and 2020 we see the results ultimately.

So while we could get upset over one year's election results at least now in '22 and '24 we have two opportunities to right the direction of now only the state of Illinois, also of these United States. So I no longer freak out, just recognize that there will be another election and hopefully the voters will make a different choice in the next one.

And I just want to offer that in '22 current IL Gov. J.B. Pritzker is up for a second term. This race was just mentioned on the Ingraham Angle and it could be this years election to follow. However, I'm a long way from predicted whether or not Gov. Pritzer will secure a second term. Blagojevich is so far the last incumbent Governor to secure that feat although we also saw how that worked out.

Mask mandate in Illinois over?

[VIDEO] To be honest I haven't really paid attention to the stats on this pandemic perhaps since the early days of the pandemic. Remember two years ago in March it was supposed to be 15 days to bend the curve and well it took more time than that. Then it was controversial to discuss the real science, we couldn't discuss if masks were effective - and if you ask me they're better than nothing however I'm not sure I agree with mandates.

Lately we're starting to ask how effective are vaccines and the booster - and again better than nothing however I don't agree with vax mandates. I start to wonder how effective the vaccines are if they don't prevent individuals from getting infected with coronavirus. Perhaps they do keep individuals from getting sick however it's not the perfect fix either.

I live in Illinois as you know and thankfully there will be no more mask mandate from the state. And hopefully in Chicago/Cook County we'll have no more vax mandates for public venues - restaurants and theaters. It's about time to start living with coronavirus...

And of course let's live in a new world with the precautions perhaps stay home if you're sick - cold, flu, coronavirus. Perhaps if you do have to get out wear a facemask of some sort. Mind your own hygiene and either wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. Always seek the advice of a medical professional on this.

We just got to live with this thing and of course if you're concerned about your risk of illness we have vaccines to take advantage of. I'm sure as things start to return to normal they might no longer be free.

Also excuse me for being cynical and perhaps this doesn't make since however there is an election year coming up, correct? Well yes, there is.

Should Mancow Muller run for Governor?

[VIDEO] Mancow who I've been listening to for years is very politically minded. He even considers himself as a Libertarian in some respects. He's a known quantity who through his career in radio has a number of listeners. The question to ask is whether or not that will translate to politics.

Mancow has an active YouTube channel which he launched earlier this year after leaving his hosting gig at WLS-AM. And some of his recent videos involves scantily clad women in fact he was considered something of a shock jock.

Well it's politics and no matter what you do you can't win them all. Just ask Donald Trump and he wasn't an awful President just one most of us wasn't used to. Who knows if Mancow's celebrity on the radio especially on the FM dial will translate to being able to edge out the billionaire incumbent Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

BTW, Pritzker's name is being floated as a potential presidential contender if Joe Biden finally crashes and burns in time for 2024. Time will tell, however, Adlai Stevenson our current Governor is not

Regardless, I have often got the feeling that Mancow will back off of this. We shall see this time, this is probably the most serious that I've seen of him on this. The freedom message is a good one but will the Land of Lincoln listen?

CapFax: Citing violent threats, Carroll abandons push to strip COVID health insurance benefits from the unvaxed

This seems to be a trend in places around the nation. Yet let's punish those who for whatever reason won't get vaxed. You might hear off handedly that those who seek medical treatment could be denied that because they didn't get vaxed or take away some privileges if you won't get vaxxed say for example travel or go to a sporting event.

And they tried it in this state a Representative named Johnathan Carroll has backed off of legislation to strip "COVOD health insurance from the unvaxed". It was said that some threats were sent to his office as a result of his proposal. Someone out there isn't happy however I hate that people resorts to violent threats. I don't think that's necessary but some people in these crazy times will take it a bit further...

Basically state Rep. Carroll realized that his proposal was divisive as seen in a statement seen in the above tweet from Capitol Fax. Of course saying that the unvaxed assumes certain risks to the point that it's all on you is certainly what's spreading among many in the country as far as whether or not you should be vaxed.

We all want to get out of this pandemic and drop these masks and the mitigations. However it's a problem to see proposals like this which as being seen time and again is only proving to divide people in the vaxed or unvaxed camps. Then wonder why people still choose to go unvaxed....

BTW, if you want to use violent threats please stop and get some help. Better yet find a hobby...

Capitol Fax: Part-time DuPage Dem social media staffer resigns after horrid and stupid tweets

I retweeted Rich Miller's post on Twitter so now I must blog about it. As I said on Twitter it was just too "rich" to share and no pun intended.

Capitol Fax: Pritzker talks PNA repeal

I just wanted to share this with you all. What made the news for political junkies in Illinois is the appeal of a Parental Notification Act. This is basically a bill that repeals parental notification if a teen has an abortion.

Rich Miller spoke to the Governor of Illinois J.B. Pritzker and he's poised to sign the repeal into law. He has come out for it and discusses it further in Miller's syndicated column.

Now with this said consider the national environment after strong Republican success in Virginia especially. Now we know consideration of parental rights can be a huge issue for the opposition to exploit.

At least in Virginia it was used as far as parental concerns over what their children are taught in public schools. And there is a report of a sexual assault in a Virginia school not too long before the state elections there.

I recognize that Pritzker is vulnerable. A good campaign that can focus on "kitchen table" issues won't be too scared of the fact that the Governor has some money - well his own - to play with.

Though don't color me naive it only depends on who gets the Republican nomination and finding out what issues resonate with the public here in Illinois. Of course it might also depend on whether or not the Democratic incumbent severely falters as Terry McAuliffe has a month before last week's elections.

WTF is going on in Australia?

[VIDEO] What Tucker was talking about on his show last week, you might have seen a lot of stories about online. Especially from your favorite conservative personality.

Australia has some very strict lockdowns and so does their neighbor in New Zealand although even that gov't there has recognized they needed to let go of having absolutely zero cases. It's just not going to happen thanks to the Delta variant. Which I haven't heard much news about lately.

What I didn't know is that two states have very strict border restrictions that the federal gov't there wants them to ease. Because they have control over their borders and not letting anyone in they largely have control over infections. Sounds familiar, don't we need tight control over our borders? Don't we need to insure anyone crossing over our borders wherever they're from is free of a disease that can spread rapidly?

You also see video of a man arrested a block away from his house to have a smoke. You can't tell that to the authorities there you're not supposed to leave home, there's a lockdown here. There's a manhunt for a man who's missing who's actually infected by coronavirus which is why they're searching for him. Not only is he clearly ill and not adhering to his quarantine he's flouting the lockdown.

Meanwhile, what happened to this Delta variant? We haven't heard much about it lately. That was supposed to be the next big outbreak, right?

Still you here from our politicians and certainly from authorities in Australia that if you get vaccinated you get more freedoms. Huh! So the police authorities give us our freedom in a pandemic? Isn't that backwards?

I'm sharing this tweet from my Governor to illustrate this point. More vaccinations means more freedom he says.

Allow me to state for the record I'm not anti-vaccination. Especially if you're very much at risk for this disease. The restrictions placed on citizens in this nation starting in March 2020 were prudent until they got extended in my opinion. And then you see the Governor of New York making this a "religious crusade" and replacing those healthcare workers who didn't get vaccinated with Nat'l Guard soldiers. We're getting weird about this now!

Capitol Fax: Gary Rabine picks up Charlie Kirk endorsement

I'm not that familiar with Charlie Kirk other than knowing he's one of those social media right wing personalities. I did catch a livestream not long after the 2020 race and I see that he's waded into the 2022 IL Governor's race. He endorsed the campaign of one Gary Rabine who hopes to defeat J.B. Pritzker in his bid for a second term.

As I see the comments to CapFax many of them whether Republican or Democrat thinks this will be a problem.

Historically in Illinois I've seen that this state tends to elect moderate to liberal Republicans - I think Rockefeller Republican works in this instance. Being a conservative is considered problematic in this state, especially a conservative Republican at a time currently when conservatives are being badly demonized.

Personally I try not to nitpick over these labels. The last Republican - who hardly governed even as he Bruce Rauner was running for re-election - was not effective and tried to govern at least towards the middle.

I'd say this state needs a decent administrator with good political skills. Hopefully a Republican who wins the nomination to run against Pritzker is able to show how they would run a state during a pandemic.

I would also say that Pritzker has actually been effective. I don't agree with his pandemic policies or any of his more "progressive" agenda. However, can't argue with how this state's finances improve even during this pandemic and he's had some accomplishments since he became governor in 2019.

I have a hard time seeing any Republican showing that they would be a better choice than Pritzker.

Gov. Pritzker the worst governor in U.S. history?

[VIDEO] Bill O'Reilly is looking at this legislation eliminating cash bail in Illinois. I'm not equipped to go word for word as far as the law that Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed into law earlier this week. However what I have heard about this law it's in line with the times we're in.

The law is primarily designed to address any inequity within the criminal justice system for low-income people who just so happen to be Black and hispanic. If you're low-income it's very hard to put up bail money to stay out of jail and if you have to put up some money to tay out of jail is an incentive to show up for court. With this legislation we're hearing things about being a danger to society or a flight risk another reason perhaps we require the accused to put up bail money.

Of course the narrative in the times we've been in for the past year is basically our criminal justice system is systemically racist and we just need to go easier on people of color. I'd be lying to you if unjust things have happened in our nation's history. I'd be lying to you if there were some racism in those unjust acts, however, to turn our criminal justice system into yet another toothless and impotent system in the name of fighting systemic racism would be a huge concern of mine.

I'm a long way from saying Pritzker is the worst governor in history. I think he's been very effective for Illinois even if I don't agree with all that he's done so far especially with this pandemic. And thankfully it'll be a few years before provisions of this bill will be in full effect.

Though, next year is an election year for Pritzker. Could this law hurt him or help him is the question. Time will tell of course.

Georgia runoff & January 6th, 2021

As I share this, the Georgia runoffs for their two US Senate seats appear to be too close to call. I'm willing to predict that one of those two seats will remain Republican. The pressure cooker of this is that well Georgia is one of those disputed states from last year's presidential election and course a recorded call of Trump attempting to convince GA's Secretary of State to look into voter fraud.

And tomorrow will be January 6th when the US Congress will meet to certify the electoral vote. And there are a sizeable number of Senators and Representatives who will object to the certification over allegations of voter fraud.

Well I want to share with you Illinois Republican congressional response. How many of them might choose to join the group of Congressmen & women who might join in the object. They only mention LaHood, Kinzinger, and Bost. Also noted at CapFax Rodney Davis who represents amongst other parts of his district the University of Illinois has not taken a position as of yet.

I also want to note that there is a protest being planned in Washington, DC just in time for this certification. I think if anything really weird happens with this election this might light a fuse under the more destructive elements of our society. Whether or not they were involved in the process all they need is an excuse to get fired up. Here's hoping things remain peaceful though I'm not sure the objections will really do anything to change the process.

Indeed we may well be in uncharted territory whatever happens tomorrow.

Timcast discusses Texas GOP calling for "secession"

[VIDEO] As Tim Pool discusses in the above video is the responses to the dismissal by the S.C.O.T.U.S. of the TX vs. PA lawsuit to overturn results in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Michigan. As I said last nite, it was very disheartening to hear the comments about taking up arms against the federal gov't or the republic is now dead. Just a very dim view of the future with a Biden/Harris administration holding the White House.

The most over the top response which is akin to taking up arms is a "civil war" or secession. Thankfully we're not essentially fight a war over slavery or over sectional issues. We seem very fractured politically and that's very unfortunate and likely heightened by the coronavirus pandemic. We probably were already there before that but it seems a lot of issues came out once our leaders decided on a course of mitigation efforts with stay at home orders, closing down "non-essential" businesses, etc.

I also want to share this with you as it pertains to this and I just retweeted this

24 states file brief against Texas lawsuit

 Among those 24 states, Illinois.

Via Legal Insurrection:

In the substance of the Brief, first there are the procedural arguments:

PA argues that SCOTUS should not exercise its discretion to accept “original jurisdiction” because core interests of Texas are not at issue, unlike a border or waterway dispute. Rather, the argument goes, Texas is seeking to protect the asserted rights of its citizens, and if SCOTUS expands its jurisdiction in that way, it will open the floodgates to making the rare exercise of SCOTUS original jurisdiction into a trial court for disputes between citizens of states, rather than states themselves.

Next, PA argues that Texas has no standing, because it has suffered no injury in fact; the way in which other states interpret their own laws and own constitutions is not a protected Texas interest. The personal interests of Texas citizens cannot be sued upon by the State of Texas.

PA - Pennsylvania is one of those states cited in the original brief that Texas had filed for the S.C.O.T.U.S. Either they reject this lawsuit and there's hardly anything else to be done at this point and likely Biden will definitely be sworn in as President in January. Or we might have ourselves another Bush v. Gore from 2000. Time will tell.

Defund police is a mistake

Today we're going back to what caused me to write daily updates to this blog for the first time in years. I was dismayed by this unrest over the past summer and we're already in a time of crisis with this pandemic, something I really haven't wrote much about here. Insanity is thinking that we don't need police and we need to abolish or defund them and have social workers come out instead.

Of course if anyone advocates for that IMHO I just see groups of people who themselves are lawless. They're vandalizing property - i.e. property that's not theirs - they're engaging in destruction. They're the ones who think looting is reparations and simple penance to insure they have clothes or food.

So let's state something, the moment you decided you can diminish police what happens, well crime goes up. What a surprise, there are always going to be people who don't respect the people around them and their property. Policing isn't perfect, but they're necessary for a society.

Let's look at Tim Pool talking about what's going on in Minneapolis. It seems for a while the leaders up there were trending back towards maybe they realized their folly and then it seems they're continuing their push to defund their police. Meanwhile carjackings are up 537%.... [VIDEO]

Mancow for Governor

I didn't know until reading this that Mancow is no longer on WLS-AM and it amazes me that Erich Muller would even consider a run for office. The premise of this post from the Capitol Fax is that Illinois couldn't be nuts enough to consider Mancow. But then again are we....

The Fair Tax fails....

I've been talking about this in the run up to Tuesday's election. As America considers who will be the next POTUS - a still unresolved conclusion as of now although other states have been called since last nite - here in Illinois voters consider an amendment to the 1970 constitution.

Well to install to our state constitution a so-called fair tax or a graduated-income tax failed to pass. The last I checked the numbers it was winning in the city of Chicago who must love making the rich pay their fair share. So I suppose the rest of Illinois should thank their lucky stars that Chicago itself didn't determine the results.

To be honest I'm confused by this. The tally is clear however, how its supposed to get passed isn't:
Incomplete election results showed 55% of Illinoisans voting against the amendment, and 45% voting in favor with 97.6% of precincts reporting. State election officials said Tuesday there could be as many as 400,000 outstanding mail-in ballots.

The amendment needed a “yes” vote from a majority of all people voting in Tuesday’s election or 60% of people who specifically voted on the amendment.

This is what we'd see on our ballots yesterday is it 60% of all voters to vote on this amendment for it to pass or does it have to pass with 60% of the vote? Well it's clear a majority didn't vote in favor, and guess what now the state has to get to work on their revenues.

This was Gov. Pritzker's issue this is what he campaigned on when he ran for Governor in 2018, he has to look at plan B. It should be no surprised tax hikes and spending cuts.

It's been a few years since I heard Republicans are going to hurt our public schools. Obviously that's one entitlement that's not going away, however, the issues of the schools goes beyond the fiscal issues.

I also want to add that I was somewhat following the race for Cook County State's Attorney. I wasn't too disappointed in the result, I had just to be a realist Kim Foxx held on against a relatively strong challenge from a former Cook County Judge Republican candidate  Pat O'Brien. There was another countywide race and that was for the clerk of the circuit court the Democrat was running away with it and Foxx as the incumbent didn't get away so easy.

Bear in mind well I mean many of you already know anyway Cook is a solidly Democrat area. Yes there are more Republican areas of the county, but it's solidly Democrat. I think that's a very hard wall to break and this area is one of those where it's just reprehensible for many voters to even consider a Republican candidate.

Then I also consider that although President Trump can't yet declare victory as he seeks re-election if you believe FOX News he grew his vote totals from 2016. He also got more minority (Black or Latino) votes in 2020 compared to any other Republican since 2008. Perhaps there's something to it, but time will tell if it remains sustainable.
