Hickok45: Three iconic US military rifles

 

[VIDEO] Something different for this special holiday weekend. Hopefully we'll have a summer much different than last year with the pandemic and of course we're marking the year of George Floyd's untimely demise although we might consider the image many of us have in our heads about his last moments. Regardless we went through a lot during the past year that Hickock shares with us the rifles used by the U.S. military during the 20th century.

During the first World War the doughboys of that era utilized a Springfield rifle five round bolt action rifle. Then in the second World War the GIs of that era utilized the eight round M1 Garand which were also used during the Korean conflict. Then starting in Vietnam and with many changes up to the present day the military uses the M-16 rifle which could shoot more than 30 rounds. Just a progression of technologies in keeping with the prevailing military doctrines of their respective eras.

With this said, we've been through a lot the past year and don't let anyone fool you America is the greatest nation on Earth. Sadly many people want to tear this nation down and bring it to some of her worst moments. Perhaps you have someone in your life like that a friend or acquaintance or even family who insist in bringing up your lowest moments. That's where we are right now.

Let's not deny that we have some moments in our history that we aren't proud of. The ones who want to say mostly negative things about America or even about some of her people don't really want better days. They want to continue to wallow in their own negativity. I don't have the best answer to how to address the negativity that we're hearing not just on our media, but from many of our leaders.

We must tune them out somehow and we can create a more inclusive America with a brighter future. And with these various rifles or any future weapons we need good people brave enough to fight for her. America has issues with race, but America isn't a racist nation. We must fight to keep her that way and to do that we must avoid condemning one race or another for some perceived or created sleight.

Hot Air: The Place Where George Floyd Died Has Become A Police No-Go Zone And A Place Of Nightly Violence

I don't know how this can be considered a good thing:

The NY Times reports that the area in Minneapolis where George Floyd was killed has become a memorial of sorts for people from all over the country who come to pay their respects. Because of the obvious tension with police, it has also become a no-go zone for the cops. And that has been fine during the day when things remain peaceful, but at night it becomes a different story

What does the NY Times say:

The chaos at night has presented city officials with the challenge of how to reassert control of the space without setting off new waves of anger, all while maintaining it as a solemn place to honor Mr. Floyd. In Ferguson, Mo., where the police killing of Michael Brown set off protests in 2014, tensions were reignited when officers moved to clear out a memorial.

But in Minneapolis, at least for now, the city is moving cautiously.

“Opening up too quickly will have a devastating effect on people still mourning,” said Angela Conley, a Hennepin County commissioner, who has been leading community discussions about the future of the area where Mr. Floyd was killed.

Even so, elected officials are fielding a growing number of calls from residents concerned about the violence and loud noise at night in the area, where, among several incidents, a pregnant woman was recently killed.

“What people aren’t recognizing is that people who live there are having a very, very challenging time from the unlawfulness that is occurring after the sun goes down,” said Andrea Jenkins, a member of the City Council whose district includes the memorial space. “There are constant gunshots every night. Emergency vehicles can’t get in. Disabled people are not able to access their medications, their appointments, their food deliveries, et cetera. It’s a very challenging situation.”

Ms. Jenkins, who noted that the area has historically been plagued by gang violence, has also been taking a leading role in discussions over how to memorialize Mr. Floyd’s killing. One proposal suggests making the garden permanent. Other ideas include a civil rights museum and renaming Chicago Ave. in honor of Mr. Floyd. Activists are finding ways to preserve the street art that was painted over the plywood boards that went up to protect businesses during the protests.

This council person also voted to abolish the city police and now she has to consider the area of this memorial where there is violence at night. And it's a shame a pregnant woman was killed in this lawlessness.

This story reminded me of what happened at the site where Rayshard Brooks was killed by police in Atlanta. After Brooks death, people responded by burning down the Wendys and then a group of protesters took up residence in the parking lot and demanded the site become a “peace center.”

At the same time, another group of armed people began blocking off the street near the Wendy’s and deciding who could enter and who could not. They even stopped an Atlanta City Councilwoman. The area became a police no-go zone after an officer was assaulted.

But plenty of other people were showing up in the area and over two consecutive nights there were two shootings. Those shootings, on top of complaints from people in the neighborhood, should have prompted police to clear the area and end the roadblocks but it didn’t. And that’s when an 8-year-old girl named Secoriea Turner was killed. She and her mother had gone out for soda and were stopped at one of the barricades. Turner’s mother apparently attempted to get away by driving into a parking lot and two people opened fire on the car, killing the innocent little girl.

This is where I sarcastically say and tape, but thankfully I have no video available of the little girl who was murdered as her mother attempted to escape this so-called peace center [VIDEO]

I had been found out people were squatting at the former Wendy's property and this wasn't the first time I saw the above video. I couldn't believe Atlanta - a city too busy to hate - had their own version of CHAZ.

It can be appreciated that in times of tension police officers and civilian authorities have a difficult job. Again a lot of this seems to be tolerated by the leaders of these cities. The lawlessness with these "memorials" & "peace centers" shouldn't be tolerated.

Emancipation Memorial - "Why are you protecting it?"

I check out Newsalert and find this out there on Twitter. An older Black man who appears to be dressed as a train conductor - DCBlackTours.com from that man's sign he was carrying -  comes out to the Black Lives Matter protest at this statue of Abraham Lincoln in DC - the same one BLM wants to dismantle.

What do we see here? Obviously the young lady who's masked up is not there for a discussion. I won't even call it a debate, she's obviously made up her mind on this statue. She wants it gone and she doesn't care - or probably doesn't know or want to know let alone care - about the history of this memorial.

This statue the Emancipation Memorial is located in Lincoln Park in Washington, DC and was funded by the newly freed slaves in commemoration of President Abraham Lincoln who is popularly and historically noted as the "Great Emancipator".

What are these protestors upset about?

"This statue right here embodies the white supremacy and the disempowerment of black people that is forced upon us by white people. That is why we are tearing this statue down," said 20-year-old organizer Glenn Foster at an earlier protest this week.

According to the National Park Service, which maintains the park, an African American woman named Charlotte Scott of Virginia used the first $5 she earned in freedom to kick off a campaign as a way of paying homage to Lincoln after he was assassinated in 1865.

If these activists really cared about Black Lives Matter they'd leave this memorial alone and respect the wishes of our slave ancestors. It's what they wanted to memorialize their emancipation from slavery in the United States of America. Who are we to question a piece of art that they paid for well over a century ago?

Unfortunately the young woman you see above is stuck on how this memorial perpetuates white supremacy. A former slave kneeling under the extended hand of President Lincoln. So she tells screams to the Black man she argues with "Why are you protecting it?" You see this is so right that it needs to come down I don't understand why you're not with me on this, it's so wrong and you're wrong.... "Why are you fighting me?"

The Black man knows what it is as he tries to tell the Frederick Douglass look-a-like activist that this woman can't handle opposing opinions. You have a dissenting opinion they automatically reject it. A classic social justice warrior or SJW - someone who finds something to complain about. They have utterly no joy in their lives.

UPDATED: Was watching FOX News just now...

UPDATE 11:01 PM - Just found the video of Harry Johnson on FOX News on this MLK Holiday.

The former General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Harry Johnson was talking about building a memorial to Dr. King at the National Mall in Washington, DC. I've been getting e-mails about this memorial in the past and I do believe it's been under construction for a few years anyway. I first heard about it at a Morehouse Crown Forum I do believe.

So let me post the website www.mlkmemorial.org and I sincerely hope that those of you who read this blog will donate to finishing this project.
