Of all places we see react to yesterday's verdict in the trial of 18-yr-old Kyle Rittenhouse on a TV program I used to enjoy titled Entertainment Tonight. I used to like to watch because they would report on Star Trek and perhaps some other things. And now it's waded into the political and the real-world topical because well it's not enough to talk about the world of entertainment right....
[VIDEO] As you know yesterday after about three days of jury deliberation Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all counts. It seems this is the right call and for me affirms the right of self-defense of anyone in this country.
The footage I've seen of him on one evening last year during civil unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin was that he was definitely being assaulted by these so-called BLM protesters. He was reportedly hit by a skateboard by one of the men who he killed. During the trial we learned another man "drop-kicked" him although he wasn't shot at by Rittenhouse.
What's so concerning about this whole exercise is that a narrative took hold that tried to put the young man in the most negative light. He was declared a white supremacist by of all people our sitting President of the United States. A lot of people seemed to stand up for the white men who were shot and who all had varying issues with the law - one was an alleged pedophile, another had issues with domestic violence - only because they came to Kenosha to "demonstrate" for Black Lives.
By demonstrate they mean assault people, loot businesses, and burn down a neighborhood. Got it!
Also the unrest happened in the aftermath of the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Blake's shooting is just another police incident where a Black person was shot although by my accounting of it, he didn't cooperate and was said to have a knife in his hand.
So you had these three troubled while males who were shot by Rittenhouse and somehow he's the white supremacist. As far as we know he did nothing directly to a Black person and the one person who actually attempted to drop kick the young man was Black. I'm hearing one of those dead men by Rittenhouse's AR-15 uttered the n-word yet he was there for Black lives so that gets a pass.
Got news for you, our society has gotten so tribalized/polarized. One side is a bit more rooted in reality, the other is just making up facts as they go a long and isn't very rooted in reality. Unfortunately the ones who aren't very rooted in reality are the ones in power in not only the federal gov't also many local gov'ts as well. I wish this could change and soon!
These are the charges Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty of:
