[VIDEO] YouTuber Casey Neistat - Van's younger brother - discusses the horrendous attack that took place in Israel over the past weekend. There were some serious reported attrocities that Casey notes in his most recent video and it gives me pause.

And even noted is that many in the West seems to support this. You see a brief clip out of Sydney, Australia of "Hamas supporters" talking about "get the Jews" or "gas the Jews". And it was amazing to see White House Press Secretary Karine-Jean Pierre taking "The Squad" to task for their evident support for the attacks on Israel civilians near the Gaza strip.

The State of Israel unfortunately has been in a hostile neighborhood since it had been founded in 1948. Hamas is a terrorist organization bar-none. It's sad that they have supporters in the west who believe they're supporting an "oppressed" group. Why would they condone violent acts not against a state or a military, but against unarmed civilians and innocent children or babies.

That strikes me as ignorance in the worst way just being uninformed. Now if there are those who believe this is OK and are informed, I'm just plain speechless. :( 

Dan Mace on his #COVID19 experience

[VIDEO] Usually I avoid posting on Sundays on any of my blogs, however, in this case I will make a exception. Besides, I don't really post a lot anywhere these days.

Dan Mace was mentioned in yesterday's video by big time YouTuber Casey Neistat as Mace himself  - as the 67th case of corona in his native South Africa - stated that he was positive for the coronavirus. Listen to Mace talk about his symptoms as he states that others experienced the loss of his sense of smell & taste. He also noted that this symptom was experience reportedly by others who had been infection with this contagion.

He talks about difficulty breathing, fatigue which are symptoms of this virus. However, its often been noted how these are also symptoms of the flu. He was treated accordingly, however, he was actually tested for the coronavirus and he was positive.

Mace has opted not to monetize this video and wants to educate the public on this. I hope someone see this 10 minute video. Instead of panicking I hope they go to the doctor not only to get tested, but to get treated. If you don't have any major medical conditions, especially the illness will be unpleasant however it will still pass.

Snowday on the south side and no snowday for Metra

[VIDEO] On Friday I shot this video on my iPhone along 95th Street from between Michigan to State. 95th & State is actually the location of the 95th CTA terminal. All the same just scenes during this past weekend's snow storm. I had actually posted this to my more visual blog at My Mind's Eye (you might actually remember that name though in a different iteration).

Via Railstream on YouTube, a video of a Metra train during this past weekends snow storms leaving Union Station. The title appropriately enough was "No snowday for Metra". Alas no embed for this one so just click this >>> [VIDEO]

The Railstream YouTube channel will on occasion have webcams featuring railroad action. Unlike Virtual Railfan - visit their two live webcams feeds here on this blog - they seem to have a free preview of the week that seems to go from location-to-location. This week they have a cam in Fostoria, Ohio. Once they also had a free preview live video from Chicago where you will see trains leaving Union Station. Like Virtual Railfan they also have a paid subscription website where you can view other live video of trains around the world.

Got camcorders on my mind

I bought a new camcorder well actually that was last Christmas sometime. The other camcorder I had, well I don't know if it was defective or not. The last year or two that I had it I couldn't get it to operate. Not even to attempt to digitize some tapes. That just means for the foreseeable future I won't buy a JVC camcorder.

Anyway I bought a basic Sony Camcorder not much different that the one you see in the first picture for this post. It's a MiniDV camcorder and for now it's not likely that I'll get the new rage at the moment which is a hard-drive camcorder. For my part though, I'm considering it.

Especially if it's for the right price and it's in High Definition (HD). Most of the camcorders I have seen that are HD cost over $1000. My only problem is with a hard-drive camcorder.

Should I trust shooting my video and then saving it to some internal media, especially to a hard-drive, and then risking that it could become deleted or lost in some way. That's why I prefer tapes and I could of course save my footage to DVD tapes and perhaps when I have that ability I would. Of course I heard once that attempting to upload and edit video from DVDs is difficult.

Right now I don't trust hard-drives camcorders. I prefer to save video footage not on the camcorder itself like I would on a digital camcorder but save it on some outside media such as tapes. Although it's great to see that there are other options like memory cards, I'm still not sold on the idea of storing video on an internal camera hard-drive.

What do you guys think? Can you provide a critique of Mini-DV or hard-drive camcorders? Do any of you have anything to add on DVD camcorders? And are HD camcorders worth their suggested retail-prices?
