Casey Neistat's next chapter

[VIDEO] If you've been following Neistat's vlogs on his YouTube channel he already stated that he was planning to end his long chapter in NYC and moving to the golden state. In this latest one he finally packs up and leaves starting off with one of his boosted boards crashing through his glass door.

It's cool to see Neistat sharing his story about how he arrived in NYC at 20 years old with no education or money and having promises for himself when he was young. He also was a single dad and wished to be a wonderful father for his son. That's admirable and now he's married with  another child and in some of his recent vlogs we see him with wife and child.

I'm excited to see his new chapter on the pacific coast. His past vids in NYC were a great setting for his once daily vlog, but what new vlogs will come from his new digs.

He makes me want to try living in NYC to see if I can make it, however, I get the idea that this ship has sailed. Although it's time for me to visit as I've never been, could I possibly make it as a tourist in the city that never sleeps?

Human Dog Christmas 2005 edition

Well, Human Dog hasn't been very active since maybe 2006 or so. Lately there's been a flurry of activity from the creator Chris Weagel. The activity being very short videos of less then 10 or 15 seconds.

I wanted to travel back in time on Christmas, and as such it's appropriate to show a rerun from that website. It's quite zany, but entertaining although I'm sure it'll lose you at some point.

If nothing else I hope you have a good laugh on Christmas Eve. Haven't decided if you'll see a post tomorrow on Christmas Day, but I wish you a merry and safe one.

VloMo08 began yesterday

I just saw this video from Ryanne's Video Blog. She was in Florida petting cows and it's interesting because I never thought of cows as pettable. Almost like an overgrown pet although I never think of cows that way because of their general function. It doesn't need to be said.

Anyway I look forward to this month. Let's see what other video blogs are participating this month.

If you've read my blog in the past year you've seen his work, whether I post some of his videos here or I linked you to some of his posts. BTW, I reposted something that I had written here close to a year ago over at The Sixth Ward.

Grab your video camera and help us cover Black Friday

That's right the Springfield, Illinois newspaper State-Journal Register is offering you the opportunity to document what you do the day after Thanksgiving, also called Black Friday. This is the first major shopping day before Christmas. I almost wish I had a camcorder to record my activities on that day, but it's more likely I'll be at home chilling while everyone else acts crazy looking for bargains or that perfect gift.

We're looking for a few shopaholics who own a digital video camera and are interested shooting a brief video diary showing our viewers how you survived Black Friday.

We'll feature the videos on our home page as part of our news coverage of the most hectic shopping day of the year.

If you'd like to participate, shoot us an e-mail to photo@sj-r.com. With your message include your name, hometown, the type of video camera you have and your general plans for Black Friday (what time you plan on getting started, where you're going, etc.)

I see this as a videoblogging opportunity too. I mean this was made for that. It's your Momentshowing of sorts. I want to see what moments people might have for the State-Journal Register.

BTW, from my more reliable videoblog sources I'm enjoying this month since it's been declared NaVloPoMo, or National Video Blog Posting Month People with videoblogs and that kind of dedication to them are making a video-a-day, everyday for November. This is the 15th so we're at about the halfway point.

BTW, I supposed this started off with NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month. Among some of the videoblogs out there this is something I have seen more times than not. If NaVloPoMo was a new concept as of this year there's NaBloPoMo. That stands for National Blog Posting Month and it looks like I'm well on my way to doing that this month posting a blog or several blogs this month. Even if I'm not an official participant or I didn't set out to do this everyday in November.

When I first started this blog, there seemed to be a flurry of activity amongst that community, but things seemed to have slowed a little bit. I can understand if people move on to other projects, I really enjoy the ones who keep going. BTW, I still am impressed with those who treat their blogs as vehicles for their own homegrown TV programs.

PubDef's videos taken off YouTube

I've enjoyed the video work of Antonio French although I'm not a resident of St. Louis. If you want to start a political blog of this same vein this is truly a good place to start. A full service blog with video and a great design and it seems fair.

Anyway here's French's story...

Yesterday evening, Multimedia KSDK, Inc. filed a complaint with YouTube about our posting of a video contrasting a September 13 story by reporter Mike Owens which ended with a promise to air a tape of an allegedly crooked real estate seller "saying he makes regular payments of cash to the local alderman" with their September 14 follow-up story that makes no mention of the allegation.

At 5:29 PM we received notice that YouTube took that video off-line. Then late last night, around 1:00 AM, all of our videos went off-line. That's around the time KSDK Channel 5 filed a second complaint, this time on the posting of the original Sept 13 video. YouTube responded by suspending our account and taking all 500 of our videos off-line.

First, we believe our usage of Channel 5's video falls under the "Fair Use" doctrine, the same doctrine Channel 5 presumably operates under each week as they use video content from other sources in their news broadcasts. In fact, PubDef's own video has appeared on local television without our expressed written consent, presumably under "Fair Use".

Secondly, KSDK never contacted us to ask us to remove the content and its labeling of us as a copyright infringer with YouTube is wrong and has caused us and our readers quite an inconvenience.

Anyway he took advantage of blip.tv another video hosting service. So here are the PubDef videos. And I guess you can chalk this up to another attempt by the MSM to maintain their pull over the citizen, grassroots media.

Hmm, another videoblog related post...

Well check out my "videoblog" over at My Mind's Eye. A video experiment of sorts except that it's actually original. I made good on my promise to provide some video of my California vacation in 2005. And expect there to be more video, I just can't tell you when I will be finished editing the video and when I'll actually post them online.

Hopefully I'll do more video and not just of vacations. Indeed not just for the sake of frivolity. Right now I'm just in the stage to experiment and really figure out what I need to do with video. I probably won't show off like I've seen so many out in the vloggosphere.

BTW, one of my favorite videoblogs from last year The Southern Video Blog hasn't posted but one video this year. A good one with a message. He seemed to have a good year in 2005 and then all the sudden he stopped posting video. And since August of last year he's only posted two including one back in June of this year.

So for those of you reading this blog, I want you to have a look at the archives. If you like what you see let him know that YOU want to see more. Hopefully he will respond. If he doesn't well there must be some other things going on in his life.

I really hope that you enjoy what he presents.

This is the coolest V-log ever...

From Ryanne's Video Blog there is a V-log about Ryanne teaching videoblogging. It is the most amazing work you'll see. I really like the idea of people teaching our youth something. It can be business, art, or sports but at least it can be something that my hopefully keep them off the streets. In this case, however, we might just be teaching the youth to tell us their stories. To teach this new media to those who may be more affected by it than we are today is certainly a good thing.

I've been following the vloggosphere for a while and this is just the best work to have come out of that realm. I really enjoyed this one. Perhaps at some point I can do this type of stuff and teach that to the youth.

Vlog soup

I've been reporting on vlogging since about May of this year well I have more to report on this novel idea and concept.

Steve Garfield has started a new feature on his blog called Vlog Soup. It's interesting in that he takes clips from vlogs around the internet and makes it into his own version of E!'s The Soup. It opens up with the sound of a can opening and some liquid pouring out of it. In any event I hope you enjoy his pieces and I hope you visit the individual vlogs that he features on his segments.

Ironically enough in his last Vlog Soup segment he feature the same vlog that I have recently features about the teacher Mr. Habarek from Human Dog.

Mr. Habarek series

The vlog Human Dog has a series on a public high school teacher named Mr. Habarek. He is starting to feel apathetic because his job is not made easier by all fronts namely the students, the parents, perhaps even his own bosses. It gets so very depressing but it is a good insight into the mind of a public school teacher.

Honestly I couldn't even imagine. I was hell on my teachers at times. It's a given that I was not as bad as the thugs I ran into in high school. And there were definitely those who were preturbed by my unwillingness to work hard in class. I almost got held back a grade for it. And this guy just breaks it down for me and I don't envy his job at all because of the stresses he's going through at this stage of his career.

Well in any event there are five videos of him and there are supposed to be more and as long as there will be more videos I'll nudge this post back to the top. and I hope that you enjoy them. I also hope you gain something from it and realize the role YOU must play in your child's education.
