Richard J. Daley: Republican

In 1936, the future Mayor of Chicago Richard J. Daley - a man who as a Democrat will become known as the "Last of the Big City Bosses" - ran for Illinois House of Representatives as a write-in candidate. Daley did so as a Republican believe it or not. He was successful and actually caucused with the Democratic side instead. Read on at John Schmidt's blog!
