What's happening in Georgia

Reddit

I remember back in about 2006 when still a student at Morehouse in Georgia that one class had a discussion about a proposed voter ID law. It seemed that our professor and some of the students were coming up with every excuse to say that proposed law was bad for Black people.

Basically can they go to a facility to get a license. I came up with this one just to be funny, they can't even afford a phone to make a phone call. Can they afford an ID? Were they just saying people were too incompetent and cheap to handle their business especially to get an ID.

If nothing else my understanding of that proposal back then is you can use your driver's license or state ID or election authorities will allow you their voter ID's. Yet Black folks were incompetent and so poor that they can't do what they need to do to get an ID. In my eyes what's the problem, you need to prove that you're registered to vote and in 2020 that was really an issue. Perhaps not widespread as stated by say a Donald Trump, however, I do believe it was an issue.

Well now we're seeing new controversies over the new rules as enacted by Georgia last month. Perhaps if voter ID was considered racist in 2006 these new rule changes that according to this article seemed to address the issues of the 2020 election absentee voting, mail-in voting, and applications for either. Those in addition to how soon a voter could request their ballots and times for early voting and how to count the votes.

And yet I find this video from Tim Pool, Georgia Republicans want to take away Delta Air Lines' tax credit after their CEO attacked this new law [VIDEO]

And then Bill O'Reilly a few days ago opined on whether or not this new law in Georgia is racist. [VIDEO]

I suppose it's racist to even consider changing or refining rules to insure that citizens can have their right to vote.
