I suppose the main thing about this story is that Mr. Jones is going against the grain of the legislature's Democrat caucus. So saying he supports Trump could cost him his seat if he chooses to attempt re-election. I'm a long way from saying what his constituents are thinking as they will be making their choices, though it's not so much the voters as perhaps the work put in by his party.
I'm sure what's true in Georgia is true in other states. In Illinois the party caucus of the legislature has a hand in who gets elected to whatever body that candidate runs for. In the case of the Illinois state house, the leadership wants to insure that they retain their leadership position. By extension this means they have to maintain their majority.
In an update Anthony Brian Logan wonders how many other Black politician anywhere holds conservative views while having a D behind their name. How many others have become bold enough to be upfront about their real views?
It seems Jones and I saw a clip of a colleague speaking about him has the tendency to go against the grain and thus isn't surprised he supports Trump. I'm willing to bet Trump will be running ads geared towards the Black community as far as for example high employment rates for Blacks.
