This article is almost two years old and it discusses Donald Sterling the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers who made the news for asserting controversial statements with regards to minorities. Even worse the person who leaked them to the press had something of an undefined relationship with Mr. Sterling. Everyone including yours truly have their thoughts as to the nature of that relationship I'm choosing to bite my tongue on it now.
BTW, feel free to ask because that's where we are now at this point. Donald WHO????
In asserting some of his controversial remarks that he didn't want his young lady friend to bring any Blacks to Clippers games. Indeed he didn't want any around her he also stated the difference between Blacks & Jews:
“Jews, when they get successful, they will help their people,” Sterling said. “Some of the African-Americans, they don’t want to help anyone.”I found that article recently on Facebook and it asks an important question. Then I found this even older article from The Grio:
Black people are far more inclined to give back to the community compared with their white counterparts, according to new research by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF).Sterling may be talking about wealth more than charity. Both are important and it's important to help people to get where you are. It's still very important to also remember there are those in need and they need some form of help to.
The report, “Cultures of Giving: Energizing and Expanding Philanthropy by and for Communities of Colors,” shows a growing trend for communities of color to give at increasing rates and levels.
African-Americans, for instance, give away 25 percent more of their income per year than whites and 63 percent of Latino households now make charitable donations. People of color are also growing in size and their assets are increasing as well.
If I could - well perhaps it's not a matter of could, just do - it would be worth it to donate to food pantries. No matter how much money you have people need to eat. Eating is as important as clothing or even shelter. Then again another aspect of helping those in need is helping those in need to take care of themselves.
All the same this is something worth pondering do we help people achieve the wealth. And I do wish I knew someone wealthy who'd help me get there. Or do we find ways to help those in need.
