In recent weeks, the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives Michael Madigan is seeking to move up the Illinois primary another month from March to February. It seems California wants to do the same except that they intend to move it up from June to February. The idea is to have more influence on the national scene.
I can't say I blame California. While in Illinois this seems to be a one-time deal to move the primary up it does seem like before any Presidential candidate can make it to almost all the state primaries that a nominee is already determined. I suppose something has to be done about it or go back to the smoke-filled rooms of old.
