Twenty-Five Years Later

I cannot believe September 11, 2001, was twenty-five years ago.

One of the slogans of that period was “Never Forget.” What is sad is that a lot of us have. The phrase still gets said. The people it was supposed to name do not always travel with it.

@America on X

What I notice first, a day after the anniversary, is not only the forgetting. It is that we still hear people say we deserved it.

Deserved it. As if the people who went to work at the World Trade Center or the Pentagon, or the passengers on those four flights, had billed the country for something and the bill came due on a Tuesday morning. That is a horrendous thing to say about the dead. It is also a way of changing the subject from what happened to a running argument about everything America has ever done.

The attack had a source, a method, and a target. Those are not mysteries. Treating the day as a receipt for prior sins is a way of not looking at the people who were at their desks.

Milestone

The year is 2025, do you know what this means?

I started this blog this month in 2005 and that means this blog is 20 years old. Perhaps the question to ask is why have I been posting here for 20 years?

How many of you have been here since the beginning?

And do you follow the "Beta" blog?

And how many Presidents since I started this blog.

  • Bush
  • Obama
  • Trump
  • Biden
  • Trump (again!)
Can I do this another 20 years?

Would you believe it's been 10 years???

I started this blog in 2005 and only just now thought to do a post about it. Started this blog while I was still at Morehouse and a lot has changed from that time.

During this period of time blogs were starting to get a lot of attention and now it's social media. Facebook was starting to get off the ground during this time and  YouTube as well. And now we have other social media sites to keep our attention.

The iPhone hadn't been created yet in 2005 and smartphones in general were pricey. Well cell phones in general were pricey although by 2005 prices had started to go down. At that point I had a phone that didn't cost me anything but a phone contract. Also the phone of choice back then was a flip phone!

Some my posts during the Morehouse College years - admittedly the longest period of my young life as it took me a while to graduate - involved Morehouse. Then after transitioning from college life the work world although to be honest I haven't found a "Morehouse man job".

Also I've started other blogs - such as The Sixth Ward - and it has taken off more than I could've ever imagined. There are still other blogs that I post to from time to time but they're still as important as this blog and The Sixth Ward. While I had been invited to post to other blogs such as Rich Miller's Illinoize or Gaper's Block this is the blog that started it all!

I'm sure I missed plenty of things, but hey it is what it is. Hopefully I can work on 10 more years.

Year Nine

Last month I wrote a blog about writing on this blog. It seems like it was just an excuse to post since at times it seems that there is some sluggishness regarding me writing here. There are some things I want to note in this current post.

Let's start with the fact that now that we're in the first month of the new year 2014, we have effectively entered into the ninth year of this blog. WOW! So nine years ago, I started this blog while still studying at Morehouse College.

The first post here at that time alluded to the main purpose of this blog which was to primarily discuss political issues. The point was never to turn this into an online diary although hey my personal life has crept into this blog from time to time. More recently it's as much the work world as it is anything else.

The early days I did want to focus mainly on conservatism or Republicanism. That was at that point in time what I was oriented towards. These days it's hard for me to say what I believe in although my belief is in common sense.

To be sure there are a lot of issues to be passionate about even today. I may often focus on Chicago, Illinois or even domestic policy in America, but there are certainly other issues of interest to be talked about here.

Another focus of this blog was in some respects regarding race. Not that I'm an expert of all things racial, but the idea that all Blacks must me of like mind on political issues needs to cease. Not all blacks are left wing and those who just don't agree there's really no need for ostracism. Besides there are many issues to touch upon but not one single solution whether left or right wing.

Now that it we have reached another milestone here at It's My Mind now it's time to consider where this blog is headed in the future. Where should we go next and on what courses shall we continue?

Four year anniversary

In posting my thoughts about Roland Burris this morning I forgot that today was the day to commemorate the start of this blog!

I'm going to actually start this off right. I didn't do one last year and if you were waiting for such a post it came much later like in the summer. At that point it basically didn't matter and no one commented.

The New Year's post probably is more of an anniversary post discussing how this blog has changed over the years. It probably will continue to evolve as time goes forward. What fresh ideas can come to this blog in this latest anniversary.

Well one possible idea is that I may post original videos here. Gives me an excuse to be creative and learn some editing or other video tricks. I've already found myself in the realm of sharing my photographs, why not video as well. One of my favorite pasttimes is to view video blogs. I should become more about of the world myself. Of course what may be offered may not be exciting itself.

Another thing I try to do is talk less about Chicago and Illinois. See that's how this blog got seriously noticed otherwise it would've been nothing more than a hobby so to speak. Well it still is since there is no income being drawn for this and this site is largely advertising free. I do use Google Ads over at The Sixth Ward which covers issues at the neighborhood, city, county and state levels.

In any event my goal is to basically treat this blog like it was in it's first year. I don't have to post frequently, but I hope that those who do drop by will drop by and read my offerings. Return visitors would be nice of course and links are also great. That won't be a driving force for this blog however. Hopefully when people read the blog they can bring something with them.

Either way keep reading the posts may become frequent or semi-frequent. They may come at least 3-times a day or on once daily. Lately I make one post daily. Let's see what year four will bring. For those who have been around since either day one or later than that, thanks for dropping by.

The very first post once again!
