Even They Didn't Buy It

I was late to this one. It still sits next to the recent story regarding the Greenfield, MA bar.

Last Ditch wanted one Saturday mask-optional and the comments reached for harm and eugenics. Two weeks before that, over Labor Day, Haymarket Books packed the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in the South Loop for Socialism 2026. More than three thousand people. Masks required except when a speaker was at the mic. That was the house rule in Chicago in 2026 — as if the pandemic was still a thing.

TYT is a left-wing outlet. That is the only reason the tape is interesting. This is not a conservative victory lap. It is their own side's floor, and the sentences do not add up.

One woman on the Health Fascism panel, still masked, tells the room to give up the fantasy of being fitter than the fascists. Fitness, in that talk, is a measure of who capitalism is willing to throw away. The line that traveled: the more dysgenic, the better. Beatrice Adler-Bolton said it. She did not treat it as a joke.

A Georgetown professor, Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò, can see that abolishing the police would be a wreck in the short run. He says do it anyway. The long march is the point. Cenk’s reply is not theoretical. After 2020 the Los Angeles City Council took $150 million off the LAPD and let the sworn count drop. Cenk says he went and looked at what that did.

The line that still will not sit still is the fat-genocide speech. Da'Shaun L. Harrison on the same health panel: GLP-1 drugs are fascistic not because a person takes them, but because they exist in a world fixated on genociding fat people. That is the sentence. TYT plays it. They do not pretend it is a metaphor that landed.

This was not a DSA convention. TYT says that on the air. Haymarket ran it. Angela Davis, Sophie Lewis, and Hasan Piker were on the bill. The vocabulary on the floor was abolition — police, prisons, the family, the border, the state — and then health as the next battlefield. No need to translate that into a program. The words were said in a hotel you can drive to from here.

Same badge as Greenfield. The mask is still doing work. Disability language is still doing work. The policy fight is downstream of the identity claim. Last Ditch lost a Saturday. This room spent four days explaining why fitness itself is the enemy. Different buildings. Same year.

Conservatives were always going to clip it. The surprise is that TYT could not find a way to defend it. That is the post.

Most recently. President Trump is hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House — first visit there in more than a decade, ceremony first, trade truce extended a couple of months, AI and Taiwan still on the table. In New York, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu takes the UN General Assembly podium and a run of delegations walk out. He calls the empty seats moral cowards and says some of those governments thank Israel in private for what it did to Iran's nuclear file.

Interesting times I'd say. The local tape is the one that still does not parse.
