The Chicago Reader politics blog gives their take on the situation involving county Republicans in a heavily Democratic county. This year the only candidate up countywide is Tony Peraica for State's Attorney. In addition they had a notice for "qualified" candidates to be submitted for slating by the county Republican party. Obviously some job they did since they either found no one to run or they didn't even try to slate anyone to run for other county offices this year.
It's certainly difficult to run candidates in a county that isn't likely to vote for them but just giving up like it seems county Republicans did this year is bad. I suspect that things could change depending on who will be the new county Republican chairman since Liz Gorman says that she won't run for re-election. Let's hope that Tony Peraica won't be the county GOP chair however. It could become a headache they won't need!
