From Fuzzy Memories on YouTube.
What we see is a campaign commerical for then Cook Count State's Attorney Richard M. Daley (son of the last of the big city bosses Mayor Richard J. Daley) as he seeks Chicago's mayoralty. He was ultimately beaten in the Democratic primary by then Rep. Harold Washington who also defeated incumbent mayor Jane Byrne. Washington thus became Chicago's first black mayor.
Anyway we see Daley's mother Elenor talking about her son who seeks the Democratic nomination for Mayor of Chicago. They really talked up the family ties and the fact that he is the son of Richard J. Daley. Mrs. Daley talks about how proud daddy Daley would have been of his son. Nice commercial, but Daley would have to wait 6 years before he can take the Mayor's office on the 5th floor of city hall.
BTW, this video gave me a good idea. Back in 1987 we had bought our first VCR and my dad had recorded local coverage of Mayor Washington's funeral back in November 1987. I think we got footage from both Channel 2 and Channel 7. As soon as I can get the necessary equipment and with the hope that the tape is still in good condition, I look forward to eventually digitizing what we have. Hopefully I can present that to you in the near future.
