Embattled Police Supt. Philip Cline arrounced his resignation this morning at Chicago Police Headquarters.
The superintendent was expected to retire later this year after more than four years as the department's head. But he has been beset by problems in recent weeks, something that apparently accelerated the timetable of his departure.
He offered his resignation this morning in a meeting with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. At this morning's news conference, he took no questions.
Cline has been under fire recently stemming from the conduct of Officer Anthony Abbate and other unnamed officers who are accused of beating citizens in separate barroom incidents caught on video.

This just in!!!
Breaking news from the Chicago Tribune is that Police Superintendant Philip Cline is resigning today. This has come right out of no where. Maybe the issues with regards to the incidents or revelations in the past weeks with regards to his officers has finally gotten to him. Anyway...
