I want to blog about this story I saw this morning from the Sun-Times about a New Year's celebration gone wrong. And it involves an unborn baby too unfortunately. A story about being careful.
A woman was shot in the face by her boyfriend allegedly by accident while they argued in her Indiana Harbor apartment. He had bought some bullets that he intended to use to bring in the New Year's. She was shot in the left side of the nose and she was sent to an emergency room and her pulse was OK but her blood pressure was low. BTW, according to the article she's doing better, stable condition being moved from a hospital in East Chicago, Indiana to one in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
In any event a baby was born when it was determined that the lady needed an immediate c-section. She was determined to have been eight months pregnant. After the c-section, the lady's blood pressure went back to normal. And her boyfriend faces preliminary charges of aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, and simple battery.
BTW, in Chicago there have been attempts to crack down on the firing of guns to bring in the New Year. Listening to my mother last night there was plenty of police out there to crack down on this. This story just gives one more reason why this is not the way to celebrate New Years. Save the guns for another purpose, like self-defense.
