Fourth of July - Independence Day Happy 250

 Today is the day America's 250th birthday. The day that our founding fathers drafted, published and signed the Declaration of Independence. I'm glad that we're celebrating this milestone properly this year.

[VIDEO] Ami Horowitz is very entertaining.  Its seems as if a lot of people don't know about this holiday Black or white. Some feel guilty about not knowing much about it.

Juneteenth officially became a holiday in 2021 and some in this video thinks the creation of this holiday is divisive. It might surprise you who might agree that the creation of this holiday is divisive...

Did you know it's currently Kwanzaa

 

[VIDEO] Mark Dice refers to this period as a cultural appropriation of the Jewish holiday Hanukkah. I'll leave it up to you if you think it's phony or something created out of nowhere by a criminal back during the 1960s. I'll also leave it up to you if we do have a fake president who is outright observing Kwanzaa via social media.

Liberal Hivemind: Insane Lefties ATTACK 4th Of July!

 

[VIDEO] Hivemind specifically targets Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO) she defeated a longtime incumbent Congressman in 2020 and probably is a member of 'The Squad". More recently she had been torn to pieces by many on the right talking about "birthing people". I guess we're looking for more gender neutral terms as opposed to "expecting mothers".

Let me share this recent tweet from Rep. Bush on the Fourth of July holiday and I should screencap it in case it's deleted:

When they say that the 4th of July is about American freedom, remember this: the freedom they’re referring to is for white people.

This land is stolen land and Black people still aren’t free.

I'm just going to let this sit. This should say a lot about what the Progressive Left Liberals think of America. It's often in the worst terms.

America is stolen land. Systemic racism still exists. This is a nation of white supremacists. This is all coming from a sitting member of Congress and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Why do you continue to reside in a nation you hate? And why do you choose to be an elected official in a nation you hate? If these are the types of tweets from an elected official then they have no agenda to legitimately make things better. This is what we hope of any elected official from dog catcher to president.

Something had got to give.

Saw the new "Purge" movie recently

[VIDEO] I wanted to take this time on the waning minutes of the 4th of July holiday to talk about The Purge: Election Year. I saw it on Sunday and had some thoughts. Mainly to express how glad that so far this nation hasn't turned to anyone similar to the "New Founding Fathers of America".

Somehow in this decade the NFFA is able to gain control of this nation and proposed an event known as the "purge" where it is legal to engage in criminal activities including murder for 12 hours. All emergenc services are suspended so basically whether you participate or not you're on your own.

In some of the synopsis of this film the NFFA and the "purge" is a result of the need to preserve economic prosperity. Essentially what was driven home in the last movie was how the purge is really used to eliminate those people who are dependent. In these movies there are racial overtones in this although I realize who could be targeted in that universe may not necessarily be of one race or ethnicity.

To be honest I never saw the first one but the gist of it is a family helps to protect a homeless man and are thus targeted by a group of purgers. BTW, I got a basic synopsis online so if you don't want to know what it's about especially if you haven't seen it please DO NOT click this link. Although I realize that this film was released in 2012.

The second one had a group of people hoping to survive the purge either being stranded in the wrong place during that period or finding themselves targets by the government. We find out more about this new regime who put this day in place and we find out that well not as many people are participating as they used to.

Then we go to the third one which is the most political of the series. The NFFA and an independent candidate are facing off over whether to keep the purge or abolish it. Of course this "political" movie also involves attempted assassinations and we nakedly see the ethnic and economic overtones of this event. We see more of these new founding fathers. They may not necessarily hold any public offices but obviously have enough influence to be the new regime of the United States.

BTW, worst part of this movie is a girl getting murdered after attempting to steal a candy bar from a store. In this world all you need is a messed up excuse to engage in this activity. I already knew the movie wouldn't end well for her and her crew. Also it's shown how this event can do nothing more than corrupt people.

With the NFFA comes an odd religion and then an odd prayer. The new founding fathers are blessed for letting American citizens to purge and "cleanse" their souls. America is referred to as a nation reborn - which becomes in my mind a very scary campaign slogan. In the third movie it seems the NFFA has their own religious arm which celebrates this purge.

All the same I could spend most of this post over-analyzing a fictional movie but I'm truly glad that in the real world we don't have such an event and never will. A character in "Election Year" said living in Mexico every night is a purge and it's already like this in some places here. We might find out the toll here in Chicago regarding how many people are killed or injury in violence throughout the city.

The new movie is fitting as it involves an election and we are in an election year now. The difference between that election which takes place at some point in the future vs now is that this election doesn't involve any idealistic candidate who seeks to do something major. The major party candidates are on opposite ends of the electorate ideologically and the nation generally isn't happy with them.

Either way, I'm glad that this isn't the nation we have now where there is such a legally sanctioned event.

It's President's Day

Little did I know the past week that two days would mark holidays regard our Presidents. Last week the state observed a holiday for Abraham Lincoln which was on his birthday - February 12th. So if you worked for the state of Illinois you have that day off.

Monday is President's Day - a federal holiday - which is for all the Presidents no matter how famous, infamous, or even insignificant.

Then I thought about how at one point the Presidency was of major interest to me. Presidents as we've all learned over the years have an impact on history. Of course some Presidents didn't remain in office to really affect any historic events and in some cases it seems well they didn't have to do anything to have any effect on historic events.

For example the Presidents during the 1850s were elected during an unfortunate period in American history. Either they were ill-equipped to deal with the issue of slavery that threw the nation into a civil war in the 1860s. Or more likely, there was little they could do the calm the nation during the intense debates of those years.

Either way the people who have held the office have been interesting and as we head to the next election in 2016, it would be most interesting to see who will emerge. Our current President Barack Obama certainly came out of nowhere, but who will the torch be passed to in 2017?

The campaign will begin and we'll see another person hope to have a crack to impact history. We can always study the ones who have already been there, but let's look at the ones who want to GET there!

It's MLK Day and Black History Month is coming up!

You know what good day to discuss this subject on MLK day. It hits me that Black History Month (BHM) is just around the corner.

When I first started this blog I had been determined to do some Black history posts and at times I've come very short. My goal wasn't just to pull out moments from Black history surely everyone remembers from school, but just to talk about where Black America is going in my view. Perhaps another goal was to say, where should we go.

Last year, I didn't do a very good job of noting BHM until the end of the last month. The point was history is always being made every day and that's important to note.

At the same time I feel as if there is a neglect of Black History and issues on my part, even if it isn't during the month of February. It caused me to come to a new conclusion recently. Perhaps I should start reading more.

I still have a booklist in the sidebar of this blog. There's really no point to this list only to say that these are books of interest and not for myself, but for you if you're interested. These books are across many different interests especially politics, philosophy, or even racial interest.

So there are some books on this list that I actually do have in my collection that would be of great interest and it's time to start reading them. Besides years ago I started the Booker T. Washington autobiography - Up from Slavery - and never finished. It's time to finish.

The face associated with this blog so far is former anti-slavery advocate Frederick Douglass. His autobiography - Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave - was something that was read in school, but if there was a reading test about the book there was no way to pass back then. Now that there's no pressure of class now is the time to start reading.

I have also been keen because it have recently become of interest to read the late Nelson Mandela's book - Long Walk to Freedom. It was once written that I often cringed at the idea of comparing the segregation here to the apartheid of South Africa there was little difference. It's great to learn his experiences as an activist in that nation to truly change that country and he served in prison for his activism from 1964 to 1990. It's time to start reading.

Well no need to stop there, but it's certainly going to be the start. And perhaps there are other books to be bought in the near future on various subjects that it's time to read. What better time to start reading than Black History Month!

Happy Veteran's Day

 

I do have one regret in my life so far, I've never served in the military. My brother briefly served as a member of the US Air Force until he was medically discharged and I had an aunt who served as an officer.It was something I did aspire to, it helped that I was really into Star Trek although that universe didn't really feature a military. Still there was something of a resemblance and it heightened my interest in the military.

Now by the time senior year of high school rolled around and it was really time to decide what I needed to do I wasn't so keen. In fact from senior year through at least my hiatus from Morehouse I would go back and forth with recruiters and would never pull the trigger. I'm not sure why but there were a number of factors that may have caused me not to sign up. 

To start my father died when I was 17, he had his issues that ultimately took its toll on his health. If I recall correctly he was instrumental in helping my brother decide to join the service. Although who knows how determined I would've been had he still been around.

On the other hand my mother just had college on her mind for me. I did well enough in high school she thought I would do well in college. Although, I always felt doing well in high school was always something of a fluke. Going to class in high school, I'm sorry to say wasn't very challenging to say the least. My mom didn't really start discussing the military with me until a year or two after I graduated.

Anyway, whatever excuse I can come up with I regret not serving. Perhaps ultimately I realized it wasn't for me and of course there are many ways to serve your country. Nothing says you have to join the military to serve and it's the only way. However to the many who did, I do respect. Many have more than paid their dues especially with their lives. The ones who have returned home after their service have my respect just as much. They made their sacrifices to insure that America will have their defenders when the time comes.

To the many who are still considering their futures, I hope that the benefits of the military doesn't entice you. My hope is that this is something you truly want to do, because let's not forget that this is the military you may be asked to do things outside of your comfort level. It's something you definitely have to be called to do and the many benefits such as money for college or Veteran's Affairs benefits (VA) just adds to what is provided for you for when you plan to leave the service. If you're unsure about what you are doing there's always someone you can talk to other than recruiters of course. ;)

On that note to all of our veterans, Happy Veteran's Day. I used to think of this day as a day off from school, but these days I do recognize the purpose of this holiday.

Today is Columbus day!

Today feels like a Sunday, but in fact it's Columbus Day. We may have learned that Christopher Columbus discovered America back in the late 15th Century in school. As time went on it turns out that story is a bit more complicated as Columbus may not have been the first European or perhaps even the first of the old world to discover these new lands.

All the same next month is another much more festive holiday Thanksgiving. I have a friend who refer to this holiday as Thanks-taking. We may celebrate the idea of giving thanks, even the origin of this holiday is complicated.

Both days are great for this main thing. These are days off from work for most and for school especially if you attend Chicago Public Schools. And here's hoping many of you see the origin of the holidays we currently take for granted.

Or Veteran's Day which is November 11, 2011. The last binary date for the rest of this century! And it was preceded by 11/10/11 or November 10, 2011.

BTW, many thanks to our nation's veterans! There sacrifices will be forever appreciated. May you inspire many others to either do what you have done in serving our nation, but also inspire many others to know how blessed they are to live here. Thank you!

Well I was thrown off by this red mail box, but this post over at Instapundit is about what a local group in Tennessee is offering to help people dispose of their old US flags. Place it in this box shown to the left and then twice a week they empty this box and then destroy the old flags.

Marathon Pundit: America's Independence Day celebrated in Denmark

John Ruberry writes about Demark's celebration of our Independence Day and the history of this event in that Scandinavian nation. The idea from a Danish immigrant to Chicago was to donate some land in his home nation to further Danish-American relations.

Happy Memorial Day...

2011, is the 150th anniversary of the US Civil War so in honor of that conflict a painting of the 54 Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment. This army unit was portrayed in the film Glory starring Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Cary Elwes.

Well the weekend is already off to a wet start. Hopefully this day will allow you to take part in any outdoor plans on Memorial Day!
