Malcolm X College on the West Side was evacuated and classes were suspended Monday morning after a threat was found written on a bathroom wall, a City Colleges of Chicago spokeswoman said.
Meanwhile, St. Xavier University remains closed Monday, and officials have closed four nearby schools on the Southwest Side after two threats were found in a St. Xavier residence hall last week.
The threat at Malcolm X was discovered Monday morning written on a bathroom wall at the school, 1900 W. Van Buren St., said spokeswoman Elsa Tullos.
"We evacuated for safety reasons, and classes will be suspended until further notice," Tullos said.
Up to 1,000 people were evacuated from the West Side building, and Tullos advised students to contact school officials at 4:30 p.m. to see if evening classes would be held.
Tullos declined to discuss the nature of threat and said the Chicago Police Department has been called to investigate.
