I used to take wrestling way too seriously

I still consider myself a wrestling fan. I have been following this "sport" since I was eleven. When I talk wrestling I'm sure people thought something was wrong with me, I had passion.

Recently, I don't watch as much. In fact I'm not too thrilled with the product these days presented by WWE. The wrestlers they present as superstars these days I wonder if they'll be the legends of tomorrow.

Let me just mention that Monday night Ric Flair, the man we all know as "The Nature Boy" had his retirement match at the recent Wrestlemania. His opponent Shawn Michaels gave his "sweet chin music" a super kick to the face and there goes Ric Flair's career. Vince McMahon wanted to retire him so every match Flair had was a potential retirement match. Well surely Flair was preparing for this moment for a while since the whole wrestling storyline started. Remember they don't do this withough some planning.

Oh, those legends I were talking about, Flair is a legend today.

Flair has been wrestling better than 30 years and he became a wrestling legend. Among today's crop of superstars, I don't see any. John Cena, Randy Orton, Edge, John Bradshaw Layfield, and I could go on and on. For some reason and I could be wrong but that batch I just can't see as legends in a few years. I could see a case being made for Sean Michaels or Triple H but that's it.

The pro wrestling product today just isn't what I want to see anymore and it seems like I've seen this for over 10 years and maybe I'm tired of it. I wish the business would go backwards in time, and sometimes I pay attention to those matches that seems like the ones that weren't too uncommon in the early 1990s. Especially with moves I haven't seen in years. Hmm, I wish that they'd vary the moves with the idea surely that they can make it more exciting while at the same time keep it a little old school.

I suppose I'm tired of these out of ring moments for example last night after Matt Hardy assaulted Randy Orton he was backstage and was confronted by Regal and at that moment Hardy request to get Orton in a match. Sometimes I'm tired of the drama in the ring where the wrestlers talk smack. It's all a part of the product I suppose but I've seen it once too often and especially when I'd rather see a good fight.

For now though I still consider myself a fan. I'd rather if I could get my hands on them, watch old matches from years back. I was doing that just the other day when I saw 20 year old video of World Wrestling Federation (WWE forerunner) programming on YouTube. Sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock!

Oh, Ric Flair had his retirement party last night. In fact I slept thru his retirement speech. I was needing a nap so I don't know what was said, but I do know Triple H got into the ring with him all the wrestlers who were with him back in the day thru to the present. The original four horsemen were there and members of another stable Evolution were there. Well everyone except Randy Orton who stayed outside of the ring. I was a great emotional event.

I understand that wrestlers thrive on this idea of respect. And wrestlers should respect the elders in the business because I would imagine that these guys could get easily offended during a match. I know most of us think wrestling is fake, but understand things happen, sometimes it could be purposeful. Just don't take my word for it, Mick Foley tells his stories in one of his books Have a Nice Day. Still it was great to see today's WWE superstars come out and pay respect to Flair as he was retiring, apparently from the business.

I still have one question. I know there can only be one, but I really would like to know who can be the next Ric Flair? Who'll be the legends of the future.

Still sounds like you still take wrestling to seriously. Personally I feel the present day westlers are watered down constructions of a marketing team. That is what happens when there is no competition just the WWE.
